Research Assistant (HOIO) in Computer Science for H2020 Project (0,2 fte)


Who we are

At the Aviation Academy, our ambition is to provide the current and next generation of professionals with the skills they need to meet the international aviation challenges of the next 10 to 15 years. We do this by providing both education and research, working closely with industrial and academic partners across the globe. This emphasis on collaboration boosts our students’ professional and research skills by placing them in real-world aviation settings. Here, they can prepare themselves for their future aviation career while bringing about tangible change in the companies they work with. Collaboration with partners also supports a continuous update of our curriculum and provides input for our research agenda Our current programme focuses on ‘Sustainable Operational Readiness’ and we specialise in six topics: Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul, New repair methodologies, Safety & Human Factors, Airport & Airspace Capacity, Security & Technology and Flight Operations Engineering.


What we look for

SESAR/H2020 is the most important research program in Europe. We recently have been granted two projects that aims at developing the ConOPS for integration of Air Transport in the intermodal network of Europe and what we call it X-CDM. The projects last for 2-year ending in summer 2022, in which 6 and 9 international partners are involved. The main role of the AUAS in the projects will be to develop a complete set of simulation models of Terminal and urban areas.

We are looking for a computer science graduated recently with experience in developing interfaces between software programs or Human and Machine, APP and internet plugins as he/she will be working on developing interfaces between sensors-software and software-software. He/she should have interest in learning simulation and optimization techniques.

His/her main activity will be the development of interfaces between simulation programs and sensors and software programs and support developing simulation models. He/she might participate in different activities within the working team of AUAS, supporting the Principal Investigator (Dr. Miguel Mujica Mota). The selected person will participate in the project with 0.2 FTE.


Who you are

As a successful applicant, you are proficient in English and have:

  • A degree in computer science, informatics or similar, with emphasis in interface development for web applications, sensors and IoT, experience with simulation is an advantage.
  • Interest and willingness to learn simulation techniques.
  • Hands-on experience in programming languages like in C#, Java,ARDUINO, Python, or similar for the described tasks.
  • Good communication skills in English (written and verbal) and teamwork skills


What we offer

Depending on your specific qualifications and experience, the full-time position of HOIO has a maximum salary of €3.920,- gross per month (salary scale 9 CAO HBO - Collective Labour Agreement Higher professional education). The HOIO position is plotted in our system according job profile Education/Research Officer 2.
